Margery  Smith
Margery Smith, daughter of Ralph and Gertrude (Bauer) Buehler, was born in Red Oak, Iowa on December 16, 1923. She passed away at the Village in Indianola, Iowa, on February 13, 2020. She had one older sibling, Ralph Jr., and two younger siblings, Darwin and Cathryn.
Margery graduated from Red Oak High School in 1940. During World War II, she worked in a munitions plant in Omaha. She continued to work in Omaha until the time of her marriage to Clinton Smith, her lifelong neighbor and friend, on August 20, 1950. One son, Gordon, was born into the family on December 29, 1951.
In Centerville, Margery was active in Eastern Star (holding a variety of offices), Presbyterian Church women's circle, Centerville Hospital Auxiliary, and she assisted Clinton in the High School Audio-Visual Department for a number of years. She enjoyed making caramel-pecan cinnamon rolls for any event that needed something delicious to eat and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans and other things for family and friends. Upon retirement, Clint and Marge enjoyed traveling which took them to Washington, D.C. to see the new World War II Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. They also enjoyed cruises to Hawaii and Alaska.
After living in Centerville for nearly 60 years, in 2014, Clinton and Margery moved to Indianola, Iowa to be closer to their family, Gordon, Denise, Kristine, and Brad. They enjoyed life at the Wesley Life Village.
Margery is survived by her son, Gordon, and daughter-in-law, Denise of Indianola, IA, and her grandchildren, Kristine of Cedar Falls, IA and Brad of Liverpool, NY; nieces and nephews, other family, and friends.
Margery is preceded in death by her husband Clinton, of 67 years, her parents, Ralph and Gertrude; her brother and sister-in law, Darwin and Mona; her sister and brother-in-law, Cathryn and Robert Fort, and her brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Virginia Buehler.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 16 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa. The funeral will be on February 17 at 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Centerville; with a private family burial at Red Oak Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa. Marge - you and Clint were the best neighbors to my parents, Avis and LaMonte Wiles. I loved visiting with you when I drove down from Wisconsin. You were always kind and thoughtful. We were so lucky that you lived close by. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
