Michele Wehrle Moehring
Michele Wehrle Moehring

Claremont, California, resident Michele Wehrle Moehring died on October 11, 2019. She enjoyed seven decades of a happy, fulfilling life.
She was born August 18, 1942, in Centerville, Iowa, to Everett and Maxine Miller Wehrle. Her first two decades were spent in a close, loving family with a sister and two brothers. She was a high school scholar, cheerleader, and musician. She was pianist for the Centerville Boys Choir and the First United Methodist Church. She was the first in her hometown to learn to dance the twist, and for the rest of her life she tended to be the last to leave the dance floor. From early childhood she was an avid reader and was interested in current events.
In her twenties she attended Wellesley College, and met and married her first love, Dr. Donald Moehring. They lived in Montreal and Philadelphia before moving to Claremont in 1972, where her husband set up a radiology practice with Dr. Sam Salen. With a home of her own she became an avid gardener.
During her thirties she found expression for her adventurous spirit by earning her private pilot's license and learning to snow ski. During that time, she also began playing tennis with a group who remained her friends for the rest of her life.
During her forties she spent a great deal of time entertaining her eight nieces and nephews, with a special event for each child when they turned ten. She also became active in local civic groups.
During her fifties she continued another favorite pastime, traveling. With her husband in retirement, they were able to travel all over the world.
In her sixties she experienced a deep loss. On February 23, 2006, her husband Don died unexpectedly while they were on a trip to the Galapagos Islands. For several years she lived a quieter life and became the devoted owner of two Yorkies.
In her seventies she was introduced to new adventures. On September 14, 2013, she married Dudley Rauch of Upland, California. He introduced her to the world of classical music, and brought her into the circle of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, where she formed new friendships. They traveled extensively with the Philharmonic, as well as to their own destinations. In this marriage she also acquired a daughter, a son-in-law, and three grandchildren. Sadly, her husband Dudley died on July 26, 2018.
Michele is survived by her daughter Heather Watkins (Wainwright) of Upland, along with grandchildren Olivia, Simon, and Maria. She is also survived by her sister Susan Sanders (Harv) of Sedalia, Missouri, her brother Mark Wehrle (Jackie) of Lake Ozark, Missouri, her brother Steve Wehrle (Melissa) of Minneapolis, eight nephews and nieces, and ten great-nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, by a brother Michael who died when Michele was quite young, and by her husbands Don Moehring and Dudley Rauch.
Through every decade of her life Michele is remembered by family and friends as a vivacious person with a welcoming smile.
Her remains will be interred at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

I met Michele shortly after relocating to Los Angeles, and through my work with The Nature Conservancy. We formed a quick bond over our love of nature and deep roots in the Midwest. As a young professional many miles from home, Michele made me feel welcome in the warmest ways. I am so grateful our paths crossed. She will always hold a special place in my heart.

Many fond memories of Michele. We were in Cadettes together and singing groups. Most of all I will remember her dazzling smile and oh...that wonderful laugh. Love and prayers to her family.

My special memory is that, just like her mom before her, she never once greeted me without a big, happy smile.
